Waterfalls tour with the Toronto Photography Meetup Group, November 3 2007. The group toured Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, which contains Churches/Cataract Falls. Most of the group diverted over to other local attractions while a few of us kept on with the original itinerary and continued on to the Elora Gorge.
Fantastic place to bring a camera. Central focus point in the lives of 5 million people. Toronto is full of history, and modern wonders.
While I prefer to live out on the edge of the Greater Toronto Area, I always enjoy a photo outing to the heart of the city.
A typical cut-out image will have the background desaturated leaving a certain colour behind to emphasize the subject.
Another term that can be used is "selective colour". My cutouts are not typically restricted to one specific colour/tone - it all depends on what I feel is the most pleasing to the eye.
Multiple Exposures combined as one, with Tone Mapping.
When I'm setting up an HDR shot, I'll typically meter on one part of the shot while using aperture priority mode. Manual focus is important, again it helps to autofocus on one part and flip the camera into manual focus mode so the focal plane does not change between the exposures.
After taking my 'neutral' shot, I'll bracket on +5, +3, +1, -1, -3 and -5 EV. It's best to do this by varying the shutter speed, not the aperture so the combining software can get consistency.
Once combined in a program like Photomatix, you'll get a massive increase in the contrast of the image.
These photos have been manipulated to achieve a specific effect. Tools used may include Nikon Capture, Photoshop, Photomatix or Panorama Factory.
The process allows me to be more expressive. A lot of these pictures were planned during the photo shoot, especially the HDR shots (minimum 7 exposures taken of the same subject), the Panoramas and the Multiplicity shots.
Every season is filled with unique beauty. Winter is no exception, the ice sculptures left behind after an ice storm, the drifts of snow across the rural landscape and the festive decorations all brighten my day
Autumn is my favorite time of the year. Cold, crisp nights with warm days make for ideal hiking weather.
Nature puts on her best show with Autumn foliage, and first frost can be expected to bring life to otherwise boring photos.
Halloween and Thanksgiving just add to the season
Learning on the job.
This set includes all the pictures in which I was attempting something new, or challenging. I love learning new tricks that I can do with the camera, or new techniques I can try out in the digital darkroom.
These are the shots that I was shy to take with my 35mm camera, as it can be difficult to remember what I was doing at the time I took the picture, and the costs can ramp up in a hurry with photo-processing.
These pictures were taken while out geocaching. Geocaching tends to take me to some very good photo spots

Water just never wants to stay still! I've always enjoyed photographing the places that water moves us to inspiration. These pictures will keep to the theme of moving water.
